Activity # 7 - Information Literacy (Laboratory)
Knowledge is Power
This statement refers to how wisdom is like a sword that you can use in order to live and survive. Knowledge can help you overcome certain situations in your life. If you know something, you have the ability to influence, change and modify everything that is happening in our surrounds.
Importance of giving credit to the source of one's work
It is important to give credit since if you put yourself in their situation, it would be disrespectful if you just copy other people's work. The hard work and effort of that person would be put into waste. The act of copying their intellectual property is like stealing.
Academic Trip
Island of Palawan |
SAMPLE DATA:
1.) Place/Location/Destination:
PLAN A: El Nido, Palawan is a Philippine
municipality on Palawan island. It’s known for white-sand beaches, coral reefs
and as the gateway to the Bacuit archipelago, a group of islands with steep
karst cliffs. (From Wikipedia)
PLAN B: Tokyo, Japan is Japan's capital and the
world's most populous metropolis. It is also one of Japan's 47 prefectures,
consisting of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages
west of the city center. (From Japan-guide)
2.) Activity/Schedule:
PLAN A: Island Hopping is one of the most popular
activities in El Nido. They also offer sailing, kayaking, kite boarding. For
the inland activities, we can tour while riding a motorbike or scooter.
Surfing, mountain biking and zipline is also available. (From Palawan
Divers)
PLAN B: One of the rare experiences that we can do in
Tokyo, Japan is to watch a wrestling practice at a sumo stable. We can also
visit the Meiji Jingu Shrine and Senso-ji Temple. Tokyo National Museum is also
a must see in this trip. For dog lovers, the Hachiko statue can also be visited
during the whole itinerary. (From TripAdvisor)
3.) Best time to visit/Length of vacation:
PLAN A: For travelers seeking the beauty of El Nido, or
simply a relaxing escape from the everyday, you will benefit from traveling the
off-season — June thru November. On the other hand, while the dry
months from November to May, may be the best time to visit, expect
the attractions to be jam packed. Such a scene may not be too relaxing for
some.
In the end, the question of when to visit El Nido is a
matter of personal preference. One week is enough if you want to have a sweet
escape from the urban areas. (From Travelin' Boots)
PLAN B: The best time to visit Tokyo is March,
April, October, and November. The weather is nearly perfect, the summer rains
and heat have passed, and sightseeing is at its best. One to two weeks is great
if you want to take in the cold and refreshing weather of Tokyo. (From
Santorini Dave)
4.) Transportation (type, budget, schedule, others):
PLAN A: The only airline that flies from Manila to Lio
Airport El Nido is AirSWIFT, previously known as Island Transvoyager, or
ITI Air is the fastest and the most convenient way. The one-way trip
usually starts at 6,000 pesos. The schedule depends upon our reservation. (From
Travelin' Boots)
PLAN B: Cebu Pacific & Jetstar Japan frequently
offer the best deals to Tokyo flights, or we can also select our preferred
carrier. The average flight price for this trip is estimated to be 10958 pesos.
The flights that are available so far are between December, January and
February. (From Fare Compare)
5.) Accommodation (type, budget, schedule, others):
PLAN A: The best accommodation for El Nido is to stay at
Corong Corong Accommodations. Here are some resorts that are of the same type
(tropical vibe with sunset onlooking). The El Nido Mahogany Resort, Las Cabanas
Beach Resort and Doublegem Beach, Resort, and Hotel. The schedule depends on
your reservation. Budget ranges from 5000-7000 pesos. (From Travelin' Boots)
PLAN B: The accommodation that we chose is at my aunt's
house. They can accommodate us since their house is perfect for us travelers.
(Biagan, 2017, Edmodo.com)
6.) Food (type, budget, schedule, others):
PLAN A: There are plenty of traditional eateries in the
town proper. Also called as turo-turo or “point-point” in English, meaning that
you point what you want to eat from a variety of choices and then pay as you
order. Meals range from 60 – 75 pesos and include rice, viand, and soup or
vegetable. While nice bar and restaurants range from 150 – 300 pesos pesos per
meal. (From Travelin' Boots)
PLAN B: The common food that are usually available in Japan
is sushi, ramen and tempura. Specifically they are nigiri-zushi, prawn tempura,
soba noodles, chankonabe (hot pot dish) and monjayaki (runny pancake). The
price depends on the store that's why you have to bring sufficient money, 5000
pesos to be exact. (From Japan-guide)
7.) Things to bring/Reminders:
PLAN A: As of 2015, ATM has been made available in El
Nido town — the Bank of the Philippine Islands or BPI. The maximum amount that
you can withdraw is 10,000 pesos with a 200 pesos fee for every withdrawal.
Withdraw as much cash as you can in Manila. Very few establishments in El
Nido have credit card readers, and it’s not always safe to use some of the ones
which are available outside of large chain stores. Always pay with cash. There
is no hospital in El Nido, and they only have a small medical facility which only
provides minor surgeries and diagnoses and treatment of common diseases. (From
Travelin' Boots)
PLAN B: Bring shoes that are easy to slip on and off, pack
as lightly as possible, hygiene kit, travel adapter, wifi device and a whole
lot more. (From Boutique Japan)
8.) Other information you may need:
PLAN A: They offer Island Overnight Camping and Cliff Climbing
for tourists so it's a must try! You may try getting a traditional
Filipino massage or ‘hilot’ which I recommend you to experience at the end of
the day after all your tours and activities. (From Travelin' Boots)
PLAN B: Always remember that convenience stores are your
friend. Know your basic Japanese phrases. Bargains is a must try when in Japan
(Try the ones far away from the train station). (From Forbes)
9.) Total Budget:
PLAN A: The total budget for our trip would be 10,000 pesos
per person. It's actually the cheapest estimation that's why we still have to
prepare in case we want a luxurious trip instead. (Biagan, 2017, Edmodo.com)
PLAN B: The total budget for our trip would be 15,000 pesos
per person. It's the highest estimated amount for our trip to be worth the
money. (Biagan, 2017, Edmodo.com)

Essay about Information Literate Individual
According to Beth Schuck, “Being able to locate and appropriately use information
according to the individual’s needs is my notion of Information Literacy”. To be information literate is to have knowledge of when and
how you can apply the information you have in any situation. In order for someone
to be considered literate in this type of field, one must know how to
effectively engage with other people through the help of the information he/she
has. It is very important that a person must be capable of thinking critically
because he/she needs to identify when the necessary information is needed.
